Quechua is an indigenous language spoken in South America. It boasts the status of official language in both Peru and Bolivia, dating back to the 15th century when it was the official language of the Inca empire. Due to a lack of written and printed material in Quechua, it is mainly an oral language, yet a number of words have entered the English language via Spanish, including condor, llama and soroche (altitude sickness).
